Sam Gilbert was born in 1960 and grew up on the high plains of the Texas panhandle. He attended Texas Tech University and the University of Texas at Austin where he received a B. S. in Chemical Engineering in 1982. After graduation from UT Austin, he studied molecular thermodynamics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received an M. S. in 1985 and a PhD. in 1987 in Chemical Engineering for mathematical and experimental research on supercritical fluid phenomena. From 1987 until 1990, Sam researched and developed laboratory technologies and mathematical models for melt crystallization and membrane separations processes at Eastman Kodak Research Laboratories in Rochester, New York. From 1990 until 1995, he developed and applied mathematical models and optimization algorithms for adsorption, distillation, and refinery pipestill operations at Exxon Research and Engineering Company in Florham Park, New Jersey. He currently owns and manages an independent wealth advisory practice with LPL Financial in Vienna, Virginia, where he helps individuals and organizations manage their investments and finances. Sam lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, daughter, and son.
